Springer is publishing not one, but two Foncsi books this September. Entitled Visualising Safety, an Exploration, this publication also stems from the work of the NeTWork.

Visualising Safety, an Exploration is the fruit of the 2019 NeTWork seminar. The timing was unfortunate, as it was held just before the Covid outbreak, which considerably slowed production of the book. The theme of the seminar was ‘Visualising Safety, an exploration: Drawings, pictures, images, videos, movies’, and it was held in partnership with Jean-Christophe Le Coze (Ineris, France) and Teemu Reiman (Lilikoi, Finland).

What’s in it?

This book explores the role played by visual tools and graphical models in safety management. It highlights the importance of being able to visualize safety when teaching concepts, communicating ideas to peers, and raising awareness through posters.

For example, the authors present graphical models that have been instrumental in promoting safety concepts, and which have had a major impact—we’ve all heard about William Heinrich’s ‘safety pyramid’ and James Reason’s ‘Swiss cheese’.

This is the 11th Foncsi book published by Springer in its SpringerBriefs in Safety Management collection; there were nearly 7,000 downloads in less than a month!
